16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

The Change Mediators Center for Sustainable Development participates in the global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” as part of its ongoing commitment to protecting the rights of women and girls in Jordan, and in support of national and international efforts to eliminate all forms of violence against women.

Through this campaign, the Change Mediators Center works to:

  1. Organizing awareness and community activities focused on breaking the silence around gender-based violence, especially in rural and marginalized communities.
  2. Conducting dialogue and training sessions for youth, women, and local leaders on legal rights, protection mechanisms, and the role of civil society in addressing violence.
  3. Producing impactful media content on social media platforms that highlights stories of change, women’s experiences, and advocates for women-supportive policies.
  4. Building alliances with governmental institutions and feminist organizations to unify efforts and achieve broader impact in combating violence.
  5. Emphasizing the role of youth as allies for change by engaging them in advocacy and lobbying campaigns that call for the reform of laws and policies that discriminate against women.

There are countless stories of women working to save their communities—communities drowning in the tragedies of discrimination, exclusion, deprivation, inequality, economic hardship, unemployment, and poverty.
From this reality emerged the priority to establish the “Rural Women’s Forum – Equal Movement in the Countryside.”
We believe that the mobilization of civil society—especially women—is an urgent step toward institutionalizing feminist work in rural areas and adopting the defense of women’s rights. It is also a response to the systemic violence, discrimination, and exclusion that some communities continue to practice against women in rural settings.

Thus, the Equal Movement was founded in 2020, taking on the mission of amplifying the voices of those who have none, and creating a sense of solidarity among rural communities to drive change. The movement seeks to achieve justice and equality, and to adopt human rights standards that place the priorities of rural women on the agendas of local and national policymakers—aligned with international standards of rights and human dignity.

As we reflect on the heavy reality filled with change, crises, resistance, and struggles in the Arab region, we hold on to hope—to endure, adapt to the shifting landscape, and mobilize national and international solidarity to sustain our collective work and shared achievements for the feminist movement in rural areas.

In the coming three years, we aim to continue deepening, developing, and building the rural feminist movement, despite the intersecting challenges facing civil society and women. These challenges include domination, violence, vulnerability, conflict, and instability across the region—conditions that have made women increasingly exposed to violations, marginalization, and injustice.

From 2020 to 2024, we have carried out fearless interventions, published research, policy briefs, and analyses on the intersections of gender, justice, and equality in rural areas. We have embraced the pursuit of bold feminist agendas within coalition spaces—particularly in local feminist politics.

We now look forward to elevating this momentum to new heights, driven by the rural feminist struggle for gender justice, to ensure the sustainability of this movement and to achieve genuine recognition of women as equal partners in development, political decision-making, party engagement, and local governance—grounded in principles of justice and equality

We strive to sustain solidarity and collaboration with partners and donors to fund our interventions aimed at reducing violence, discrimination, and exclusion against women in rural and marginalized areas. These communities are in urgent need of immediate action and emergency response to support the protection of rural women’s futures and to put an end to all forms of violence, discrimination, and exclusion.
