“Dialogue Sessions in Ajloun to Discuss Amendments to the Local Administration Law and Women’s Empowerment.”
“Three specialized dialogue sessions concluded in Ajloun Governorate, organized by Rural Ambassadors for Training and Sustainable Development, in partnership with the Center for Change Mediators for Sustainable Development and in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. These sessions were held as part of the ‘Rural Women’s Forum’ to discuss a policy paper entitled: ‘Towards Inclusive Local Governance – Amending the Local Administration Law No. 22 of 2021, with a Focus on Women’s Empowerment.'”
“The sessions were held from Monday to Wednesday (August 18–20, 2025) at the Center for Change Mediators in Ajloun, with the participation of 40 individuals, including 22 women and 18 men. The participants represented a broad spectrum of experts, activists, members of municipal and decentralization councils, as well as politicians, decision-makers, and civil society representatives.”
“The discussions focused on the key challenges and opportunities related to enhancing women’s participation in political life and decision-making positions at the local level, as well as on ways to amend existing legislation to ensure greater inclusivity and equity within the local governance system.”
“Participants also reviewed local and regional experiences in this context and contributed practical recommendations for drafting an amended law that enhances women’s representation and supports balanced political participation. They emphasized the need to allocate fair representation quotas for women in local and municipal councils and to involve civil society organizations in the process of drafting and reviewing legislation related to local governance, in line with Jordan’s political modernization vision and the Sustainable Development Goals.”
“Participants stressed the importance of continuing such participatory community dialogues to ensure the development of more realistic and inclusive policies that reflect the needs of local communities and support the empowerment of women as key partners in development and decision-making.”
