🌱 Mahmoud Al-Ba’oul – Smart Agriculture from Rural Ajloun: When Innovation Meets Sustainability
🌿 Amid the hills of Anjara in Ajloun Governorate, an unconventional idea was born—sparked by a young man determined to redefine agriculture in rural Jordan. I am Mahmoud Mustafa Abdul Hamid Al-Ba’oul, and my journey began with a deep belief that climate challenges and resource scarcity can be tackled through smart ideas and modern technologies. From this conviction, my project “Smart Green House” was born—as a practical model for sustainable smart agriculture.
🚀 From a Simple Idea to a Fully-Fledged Project
🌞 My project is based on designing a smart greenhouse that relies on solar energy to generate the heating and lighting necessary for crop growth. Using advanced electronic sensors, temperature and humidity are automatically regulated, and air-extraction turbines are activated to adjust the internal agricultural climate in response to changing weather conditions.
🌿 What sets the project apart isn’t just the technology—it’s the sustainable vision behind it. We began cultivating aromatic plants with both environmental and market value, such as rosemary, wormwood, thyme, and sage, with a focus on improving productivity and product quality to meet local demand and support export opportunities.
🌟 The True Turning Point… Support from Ruwad Grants
🌟 The turning point came when I joined the project “Ruwad – From Innovation to Creation,” implemented in Ajloun Governorate by Ruwwad Al-Tanmeya in collaboration with the Change Makers Center for Sustainable Development, with support from SPARK and funding from the European Union. Through this project, I received a development grant that enabled me to acquire modern equipment and enhance the technical infrastructure of my initiative, along with a series of advanced trainings that included:
- 🌾 Agricultural Project Management
- 📈 Smart Marketing for Agricultural Products
- 📊 Financial Management and Strategic Planning
- 🌍 Integrating Environmental Sustainability Concepts into Business Models
🚀 This support wasn’t just financial—it was a launchpad toward professional project management and the geographic and economic expansion of the initiative.
🌱 Towards Smarter and More Sustainable Agriculture
🌿 Today, we are in the process of expanding the project by adding new smart greenhouses and developing an intelligent irrigation system based on a modified Groasis technique. This system transforms hydroponic farming into a model that recycles water and achieves up to 80% savings. We also plan to introduce centralized electronic control systems that reduce the need for human intervention and enhance production efficiency.
📢 The Message
🌿 “Smart Green House” is not just an agricultural project—it’s a vision for a different future for the Jordanian countryside. It’s a model that shows how knowledge and technology can intersect with the environment and community to create real impact. My story is an open invitation to every young person who sees opportunity in challenges, and to anyone who believes that agriculture can be smart, green, and profitable all at once.
