Mujahida Al-Momani: Strategic leadership in local development
For twenty-four years, Mujahida Yousef Suleiman Al-Momani has emerged as a leading female role model in Ajloun Governorate, embodying the strong presence of Jordanian women in institutional and community work. She began her career at the Union of Charitable Societies, where she spent ten years serving needy families and supporting development initiatives, earning the respect and trust of the community. She then moved to the Al-Junaid Municipality, where she served as a payroll accountant for ten years, distinguishing herself through her accuracy, professionalism, and discipline. Her high competence and leadership abilities led to her appointment as the municipality’s Human Resources Director.
In her role as Director of Human Resources, Mujahida contributed significantly to improving the work environment within the municipality, focusing on raising employee performance levels and building effective teams, believing that investing in people is the true foundation of institutional development. She also played a prominent role in strengthening the relationship between the municipality and the community through initiatives related to transparency and community engagement.
To further this role, Al-Junaid Municipality collaborated with Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development, with Mujahida serving as the liaison officer between the two entities. Through this collaboration, the Center supported the Public Relations Unit and the Municipal Council with specialized capacity-building programs, including training in effective communication, community campaign management, and improving mechanisms for responding to citizens’ needs. The Center also provided significant support to community engagement services by training staff in organizing public meetings and expanding communication channels with residents.
Among the most prominent activities implemented within this collaboration was the live streaming of municipal council sessions and town hall meetings to citizens via digital platforms. This allowed them to follow the proceedings in real time, participate in discussions, and understand the decision-making processes. This step represented a qualitative leap towards establishing transparency, enhancing accountability, and opening the door for citizens to be part of the development process at the municipal level.
Mujahida’s experience wasn’t limited to municipal work; it extended to the field of early childhood, where she worked as a trainer with UNICEF for over five years. During this time, she played a vital role in training staff working in this sector and contributed to improving the quality of services provided to children, stemming from her belief that early childhood development is the foundation for building a brighter future for society.
Today, Mujahida Yousef Al-Momani represents a success story for Jordanian women who have combined professionalism with community commitment, contributing to the development of municipal work and enhancing community participation, in addition to her role in building the capacities of those working in the field of early childhood. Her journey affirms that success is the result of perseverance, diligence, and a deep belief in the human capacity to effect change, no matter the challenges.
