Strength, Not Disability: A Media Story from the Countryside Towards Change
In the rural areas of Ajloun Governorate, where social challenges intersect with a determination for change, Tayma Al-Momani emerged as a young Jordanian media professional who broke barriers and embraced a cause often marginalized: the rights of people with disabilities, especially in rural communities. Her media presence was not incidental but the result of a journey of empowerment, training, and support led by the Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development and nurtured by Sawt Ajloun Community Radio. Through this platform, Tayma became a powerful national voice advocating for justice and equality.
Through her radio program “Strength, Not Disability,” Tayma was able to create a humanitarian and community dialogue platform that addresses disability issues from a rights-based and developmental perspective. The program was more than just a broadcasting space; it became a platform for social change, discussing laws, reviewing services, and highlighting inspiring stories of individuals who challenged disability and proved that ability is measured not by the body, but by the will.
Tayma’s journey began through a well-planned experience supported by the Intermediaries of Change Center, which provided her with training programs, mentorship, and learning spaces that helped her develop her skills as a young presenter from rural Jordan who understands and expresses its concerns. Thanks to this support, she became capable of leading conscious and bold discussions about disability, discrimination, and the lack of justice in access to services, especially in underprivileged areas.
Tayma’s journey was driven by her deep belief in the agenda of Sawt Ajloun Radio and the Intermediaries of Change Center, which emphasizes that inclusive development is incomplete unless it embraces everyone, and that justice cannot be achieved if any group is left behind. From this standpoint, she worked to build support for the rights of people with disabilities, connecting their voices with official institutions and civil society, advocating for fair rights, equal opportunities, and development planning that excludes no one.
The program “Strength, Not Disability” stood out for its role in raising community awareness, fostering dialogue between decision-makers and rural communities, and highlighting the structural and cultural barriers that hinder the inclusion of people with disabilities in various aspects of life. The program also became a powerful voice contributing to changing stereotypes and promoting inclusive media discourse based on respect for human dignity.
Today, Tayma Al-Momani embodies the model of a rural media professional deeply committed to her mission—one who has gone beyond the boundaries of her profession to transform her voice into a tool of empowerment and her airwaves into a battleground for justice. She represents not only a story of individual success but also a story of media and developmental transformation that began in the countryside and expanded into community awareness.
Tayma’s story reminds us that true media is not measured by the number of views, but by the impact it has on people’s lives. Proper support, training, and empowerment can transform a young woman from rural Jordan into a national beacon who advocates for everyone’s right to have a voice, a place, and a future that leaves no one behind.
