Within our vision at Radio Sawt Ajloun as an independent community media institution concerned with public affairs and working to empower marginalized groups in Ajloun Governorate, we launched our fourth programming cycle with a renewed spirit, driven by passion and responsibility towards issues of local development. This cycle was based on our previous evaluations, in response to the needs of our local community, and out of our keenness for the radio to be a living voice that represents and expresses the people. In our fourth cycle, we focused on enhancing community participation by opening space for citizens to interact and hold accountable. We launched dialogue programs that allow people to express their needs and problems, and to follow the performance of local institutions directly. We continued broadcasting the program “My Municipality, How Are You?” which serves as a successful model linking citizens with the municipal council through live broadcasting of sessions and enabling citizens to ask questions and provide comments via social media. We continued supporting media students and recent graduates from the governorate by providing practical training opportunities within Radio Sawt Ajloun, integrating them into program preparation and presentation. We believe that community media is incomplete without youth participation; therefore, we ensured that the radio serves as a platform for learning and practice, and a laboratory for producing a new generation of media professionals committed to the message of social change.

The first programming cycle marked a true launchpad for Radio Sawt Ajloun in 2019. We started working with limited resources but great determination to create change, targeting rural communities and the most marginalized groups. This cycle aimed to establish the radio as a community platform that integrates gender issues and the priorities of youth and women into the development planning process, while enhancing rapid responses to the daily challenges faced by the population. Within this vision, we launched the program “How’s My Municipality Doing?” in partnership with the Greater Ajloun Municipality, as an interactive platform connecting citizens directly with municipal decision-makers. We began broadcasting municipal council sessions live on our Facebook page, providing citizens the opportunity to ask questions, give feedback, and follow discussions transparently. The program addressed vital service issues such as waste accumulation, weak infrastructure services, and the decline in public service quality in rural areas. It helped promote community accountability, raised awareness of the challenges and opportunities in local governance, and fostered a culture of popular participation in decision-making. “How’s My Municipality Doing?” was the beginning of a truly interactive radio experience that made the voice of the citizen part of official dialogues and reinforced the radio’s position as a community media platform striving for sustainable positive impact.
In the heart of the countryside, where stories are whispered and screams are stifled behind closed doors, brave women stand silently resilient against storms of violence and marginalization, bearing wounds heavy with patience. Their stories are no longer tales exchanged in shadowy corners but have become a clear call to break the silence and shake the walls of quietude that have surrounded them for decades. In every scene of this documentary work, there is a precise and painful documentation of the reality faced by rural women who find themselves on the front lines confronting one of the most hidden and severe forms of violence: gender-based political violence. The film series reveals how women are excluded from public life, denied their political and civil rights under the guise of traditions or the authority’s banner, and subjected to crimes whose perpetrators evade punishment amid a lack of accountability and a dwindling political will for change.
We must invest in fieldwork, intensify direct communication with people, and raise awareness about the complex context and reality we live in. The first part of the documentary “Brave Women: Breaking the Silence Barrier in the Countryside” documents a series of real-life stories of women on the front lines confronting gender-based political violence. It exposes the practices and crimes of violence, exclusion, discrimination, and deprivation of political and civil rights committed against rural women. The film is part of the international campaign to combat gender-based violence.
Change will not happen as long as we compromise on our societal issues and separate violence and discrimination from daily life—that is, as long as we continue to divide what happens in the private sphere from what happens in the public sphere! The second part of the documentary “Brave Women: Breaking the Silence Barrier in the Countryside” documents a series of real-life stories of women on the front lines confronting gender-based political violence. It highlights the practices and crimes of violence, exclusion, discrimination, and deprivation of political and civil rights committed against rural women. The film is part of the international campaign to combat gender-based violence.
The darkness of the scene and the prospects of resistance: The undeniable truth is that violence against women in rural communities is continuously escalating! Part three of the documentary “Brave Women: Breaking the Silence Barrier in the Countryside” documents a series of real-life stories of women on the front lines confronting gender-based political violence. It records the practices and crimes of violence, exclusion, discrimination, and deprivation of political and civil rights committed against rural women. The film is part of the international campaign to combat gender-based violence.
There is no hope for real and radical change without serious accountability for ourselves, our local leaders, and our institutions, along with equal participation of women. Part four of the documentary “Brave Women: Breaking the Silence Barrier in the Countryside” documents a series of real-life stories of women on the front lines confronting gender-based political violence. It records the practices and crimes of violence, exclusion, discrimination, and deprivation of political and civil rights committed against rural women. The film is part of the international campaign to combat gender-based violence.
How can rural women achieve equality under these constraints? #BraveWomen share their inspiring stories of survival from male violence. Below is the first video—please help us spread it so every woman knows there is a safer, more peaceful life beyond the cycle of violence. Rural women are still considered under the guardianship of men in the family (father, husband, brother, or son), and the struggle for gender equality continues in Jordan on many levels. Rural women remain the most vulnerable and most affected by gender-based discrimination and violence in various forms throughout rural areas.

“Mutsawiya”… The Voice of Young Women at the Heart of Change 🎙️ At a time when climate and environmental challenges are escalating, and the social and political landscape in our region is becoming increasingly complex, a new voice emerges—one that carries awareness, plants hope, and leads a genuine dialogue on justice and equality. This is the voice of young women, expressed through the program “Mutsawiya”, the radio platform broadcast via Ajloun Voice Community Radio, which has become a vibrant space where communities and decision-makers listen to the voices of girls and young women in Jordan, especially from rural and marginalized areas. The program “Mutsawiya” goes beyond merely presenting the challenges faced by girls; it strives earnestly to involve them in dialogue, decision-making, and advocacy through interactive episodes that host experts, policymakers, activists, and field practitioners. The aim is to create a direct link between local realities and the national and international scene. The program is a community empowerment tool that narrows the gap between institutions and youth, and between policy and practice, at a time when girls still suffer from low levels of representation and influence. In one of its episodes, the program opens the door to discussions on climate justice and gender equality, highlighting the significant challenge young women in Jordan and the region face: systematic exclusion from climate planning and decision-making processes. By hosting a distinguished group of specialists such as environmental expert Hala Murad, activist Anwar Naddami, member of the “She Leads” network Rahaf Abu Mayala, and Jerash Governorate Council member Mohammad Al-Qaisi, the program explores how the absence of women from these discussions negatively impacts the inclusiveness and effectiveness of environmental policies and prevents communities from achieving sustainable and equitable solutions for all. “Mutsawiya” is not merely a radio program; it is part of the “She Leads” project implemented by Plan International with support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project aims to support young women’s leadership and empower them to influence public policies. The program aligns with the national agenda for equality and simultaneously connects to international agendas, such as the Sustainable Development Goals—especially Goal 5 on Gender Equality and Goal 13 on Climate Action—thus serving as a bridge between the local and global, and between the margins and the center. Through this program, young women and girls are given the opportunity to share their experiences, present their visions, and lead discussions that touch on their daily lives and futures. Conversely, official institutions and civil society are called upon to listen, engage, and take responsibility for supporting equitable participation for all. It is a call for collective reflection and joint action to bring about real change in societal and legislative structures that continue to marginalize girls from spheres of influence. “Mutsawiya” believes that empowering young women is neither a luxury nor a peripheral option—it is an urgent necessity for building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable society. In a rapidly changing world facing overlapping crises, placing gender equality at the heart of climate and development work is the best path toward peace, prosperity, and a dignified life for all.

“Mutasawiya” – Partners for Social Protection of Rural Women 🎙️ In the heart of rural Jordan, where the land pulses with life and women persevere with patience and determination for a better future for their families and communities, the urgent need arises to strengthen social protection systems—not as a privilege, but as a fundamental right for every woman living on the margins of public policy and under the weight of compounded economic and social challenges. This special episode is part of the capacity-building program under the project “Partners for Social Protection of Rural Women,” generously supported by the Ajloun Charity Association for Women. It is grounded in a comprehensive vision that recognizes rural women as true partners in development—not just beneficiaries of temporary programs. This impactful project, implemented under the “Civil Society Organizations” component in partnership with Expertise France, the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development, and under the umbrella of the EU Support to Social Protection in Jordan Project (funded by the European Union), aims to expand the umbrella of protection and social justice for rural women. It seeks to empower local civil society organizations, build their capacity to design and deliver gender-responsive services, and develop policies and initiatives that ensure equitable and fair access to resources, opportunities, and rights. Now more than ever, we need genuine alliances between civil society organizations, government entities, and international supporters to ensure that social protection becomes a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable system—one that starts from the grassroots and returns to them, built upon the real needs and aspirations of women, not the assumptions of closed offices. In these episodes, we discuss the theoretical and practical frameworks of social protection, share experiences and practices, and train together on new tools that enhance our capacity as an active civil society striving to build a more just Jordan—one where no rural woman is left behind.
