📄 Report on the Conference: “Economic Empowerment to Safeguard the Future of Women in Rural Areas – Ajloun”
🌾 In light of the social and economic challenges facing women in rural areas, the convening of the “Economic Empowerment to Safeguard the Future of Women in Rural Areas – Ajloun” conference came as a genuine response to the pressing realities—particularly the rising unemployment rates, low levels of women’s economic participation, and limited access to resources and institutional support.
This conference emerged from a collaborative effort between UN Women, the Jordanian National Commission for Women, and the Change Makers Center, aiming to develop practical and sustainable solutions that strengthen the role of rural women as economic and social actors.
📊 The final report of the conference revealed a significant gap between women and men in access to economic opportunities. Women suffer from severe shortcomings in vocational training and entrepreneurial empowerment, in addition to the absence of financial and marketing support networks, which makes them more vulnerable to poverty and economic dependency.
The report also pointed out that many women in rural areas possess skills and capabilities, but face structural barriers that prevent them from transforming this potential into sustainable productive projects.
📌 The conference resulted in a number of important outcomes, most notably: the creation of a database of women-led economic initiatives, the establishment of partnerships with governmental and local institutions to coordinate efforts, and the identification of development priorities for rural women.
It also contributed to creating a dialogue space between decision-makers, local community representatives, and the women themselves, which deepened the understanding of challenges and opened the door for proposing effective policy interventions.
🌍 The conference emphasized that economic empowerment of women in rural areas is not merely a rights-based demand, but a strategic tool for achieving comprehensive development, reducing poverty, and promoting social justice.
Participants concluded that improving the economic reality of women requires not only fair policies, but also genuine political and societal will, along with commitment from all actors in both the public and private sectors to support women-led initiatives and expand their impact.
