Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development Agents for Sustainable Development launches the #Unite campaign to “end digital violence against all women and girls” in partnership with Ajloun Voice Radio.
Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development for Sustainable Development, in partnership with Ajloun Voice Radio, launched a community awareness campaign entitled “Unite: Towards Ending Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” with the aim of highlighting the digital challenges faced by women and girls, especially in rural communities, and promoting awareness of digital security as a fundamental human right.
The Executive Director of the Center for Change Agents and Ajloun Community Radio pointed to the campaign’s role in highlighting the reality of digital violence against women and girls in rural areas, where marginalization and discrimination intersect with the growing forms of bullying, blackmail, and digital harassment. The campaign indicates that these attacks do not remain confined to cyberspace, but extend far into the real world, causing long-term harm, especially to activists, journalists, and human rights defenders. Donors and government institutions are required to take urgent action to invest in supporting civil society, women’s organizations, and human rights work, in order to create a safe digital environment for all.
Campaign coordinator Lana Al-Momani emphasized that the campaign highlights the power of community media as a tool of resistance that contributes to breaking the silence, documenting violations, and building community awareness that protects women and girls. Community media is not just a transmitter of news, but a space that preserves truth and human dignity, and promotes justice and equality. The campaign’s messages call for the recognition that digital violence is not just individual behavior, but a societal problem that requires a comprehensive cultural change that rejects hate speech, bullying, and privacy violations, towards building a generation that possesses the knowledge and tools to protect itself within digital spaces.
The campaign coincides with the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, where the center, the radio station and their partners celebrate the leaders and initiatives that work on developing policies and legislation, contribute to awareness, dialogue and advocacy towards promoting digital safety, provide support to survivors, and ensure spaces that respect everyone’s humanity, towards building a world free of violence that begins with prevention, and with the belief that safety is a right for everyone without exception.
