Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development and Radio Sawt Ajloun Launch a Field School for Modern and Sustainable Agricultural Techniques in Cooperation with the Ajloun Directorate of Agriculture.
The Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development and Sawt Ajloun Community Radio, in cooperation with the Ajloun Governorate Directorate of Agriculture, launched a specialized training program as part of the Field School for Modern and Sustainable Agricultural Techniques. The program aims to develop participants’ knowledge and skills, promote the use of modern agricultural methods and technologies, and support the transition toward smart and sustainable agriculture. This contributes to improving agricultural production and enhancing the efficiency of natural resource use.
The launch of the Field School comes as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships among civil society organizations, government institutions, and the agricultural sector, while providing training opportunities that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application. This helps participants, particularly young people, acquire practical skills that can be applied to developing agricultural projects, improving production, and making effective use of modern technologies.
The program aims to empower participants to gain knowledge and practical experience in a number of areas, most notably:
Modern agriculture and smart agricultural technologies; sustainable management of natural resources; improving agricultural production and enhancing efficiency; adapting to the impacts of climate change; promoting sustainable agricultural practices; optimizing the use of water and agricultural resources; and applying modern technologies to agricultural operations and production. The training program runs for 12 training days, including 4 days of theoretical training and 8 days of practical and hands-on training, enabling participants to combine fundamental concepts and knowledge with direct field application.
Engineer Hazem Al-Amawi, Director of Agriculture in Kufranjah, highlighted the importance of implementing specialized training programs on modern agricultural methods and technologies. He emphasized that developing the agricultural sector requires a shift from traditional practices toward more efficient and sustainable production methods, as well as greater use of modern technologies that help farmers improve productivity, reduce costs, and optimize the use of resources. He also explained that the Ministry of Agriculture is placing increasing emphasis on developing field schools in rural areas, recognizing them as effective tools for transferring agricultural knowledge and expertise to farmers and young people in a practical and direct manner, while linking training to agricultural realities and the needs of farmers in the field.
Al-Amawi also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with civil society organizations and local stakeholders to implement training programs targeting young people and farmers, providing them with opportunities to learn about modern agricultural technologies and sustainable practices. This contributes to the development of the agricultural sector and enhances its capacity to address challenges related to climate change and water scarcity.
Engineer Omar Qawqana, Head of the Extension Department at the Ajloun Directorate of Agriculture, emphasized the important role played by the Directorate and the Department in supporting farmers and developing the agricultural and rural sectors in the governorate through providing technical guidance, conducting training sessions and field visits, and promoting modern agricultural practices.
Qawqana noted that the Extension Department works to help farmers improve the quality of their production, promote efficient water use, control pests, and encourage sustainable agriculture. It also supports food processing and marketing, as well as income diversification, contributing to creating employment opportunities and strengthening the role of women and youth in rural development.
He explained that the Directorate seeks to strengthen partnerships with farmers and local institutions and connect them with available programs, services, and opportunities. This contributes to strengthening the resilience of rural communities and supporting sustainable agricultural development in Ajloun Governorate.
Ms. Nadia Al-Rabadi, Director General of the Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development, highlighted the importance of partnership with the Ajloun Directorate of Agriculture, the Kufranjah Directorate of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Agriculture in implementing programs aimed at developing the capacities of farmers and young people. She emphasized that investing in agricultural knowledge and skills is one of the key pathways to promoting economic and social development in rural areas. Al-Rabadi commended the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and the agricultural directorates in Ajloun Governorate to support farmers, develop agricultural services and extension, and enhance their access to knowledge and modern technologies. She also highlighted the importance of providing greater opportunities for young people within agricultural and training programs, considering them a key component of the future of the agricultural sector and recognizing their potential to introduce technology and innovation into agricultural projects.
Al-Rabadi emphasized that, through its programs and projects, the Center is committed to supporting rural communities, empowering young people and women, enhancing their access to training and knowledge, and connecting the skills they acquire with economic opportunities and sustainable productive projects, particularly in sectors where Ajloun Governorate has promising advantages and opportunities, foremost among them agriculture, tourism, and the green economy.
Ahmed Abdulqader Al-Rababa’a, Programs and Communities Specialist at the Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development, noted that the launch of the Field School for Modern and Sustainable Agricultural Techniques comes in response to the need for practical training programs that help young people and farmers develop their knowledge and skills and transition from theoretical knowledge to practical application in the field.
Al-Rababa’a explained that the program combines theoretical and practical training, allowing participants to learn about the latest modern agricultural methods and practices and then apply them practically. This enhances their ability to address agricultural challenges and make effective use of technology to improve production.
Lana Al-Momani, Communications and Media Coordinator, noted that the Field School focuses on a range of topics related to smart and sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, improving water-use efficiency, and adapting to climate change. It also introduces participants to technologies that can help farmers and young people develop more efficient and sustainable productive projects. She explained that the objective of the Field School is not limited to providing training; rather, it seeks to build participants’ capacities and empower them to apply the knowledge they acquire in their projects and local communities, while encouraging them to adopt modern agricultural practices that take the environment into consideration and conserve natural resources. The launch of the Field School in Ajloun Governorate comes in light of the importance of the agricultural sector to the local economy and its role in providing sources of income and employment opportunities for families and young people in rural areas. It also responds to the need to develop agricultural practices in line with the challenges associated with climate change, water scarcity, and rising production costs.
The program seeks to promote the concept of smart and sustainable agriculture by combining agricultural knowledge, field experience, and modern technologies, while encouraging participants to adopt practical solutions that help improve production, reduce waste, and enhance resource-use efficiency.
The program also aims to foster a culture of innovation in the agricultural sector and encourage young people to view agriculture as a promising economic sector that can be developed through technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It seeks to create opportunities for new agricultural projects that respond to market needs while preserving natural resources. The Field School represents a practical step toward strengthening agricultural knowledge, transferring expertise to the field, and building the capacities of a new generation of young people and farmers who are able to utilize modern technologies to develop the agricultural sector and contribute to building a more productive, sustainable, and climate-resilient agricultural sector in Ajloun Governorate.
