Active national participation in a workshop on supporting efforts to implement national action priorities in Jordan 2025–2030

The Jordanian National Commission for Women, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and UN Women, and with the support of the Danish Information Centre (Kvinfo), organized a workshop entitled:

“The Role of Civil Society, Human Rights Organizations and National Institutions in Supporting Efforts to Implement National Action Priorities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan 2025–2030”, as part of the preparation of the national report for the sixth periodic review of progress made in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action after 30 years.

The opening session featured speeches by Her Excellency the Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women, Engineer Maha Ali, the Vice-President of the Economic and Social Council, Professor Reem Badran, the Head of the ESCWA Centre for Women, Nada Darwazeh, and the UN Women Representative in Jordan, Nicholas Burnett.

The session was attended by Dr. Muath Al-Momani, the General Coordinator for Human Rights at the Prime Ministry, and Dr. Abeer Dababneh, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, along with representatives of civil society organizations, national human rights institutions, relevant government institutions, UN Women, and the Danish Information Center.

The workshop was attended by the Executive Director of the Center for Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development, Mr. Suhaib Ahmed Rababa’a, who made interventions during the workshop on the importance of strengthening the role of civil society in reforming policies and following up on the implementation of national priorities related to the women’s agenda, social protection, participation, and fair rights, and ensuring their alignment with the needs and priorities of marginalized communities in the governorates, in pursuit of fair and equal opportunities for all. He stressed the need to strengthen partnerships between national institutions, civil society organizations, and the government to accelerate progress towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment, as stated in the Beijing +30 report on Jordan’s situation, commitments, and priorities.

The workshop aims to discuss national priorities for the years 2025–2030, and the role of civil society organizations and national human rights institutions in supporting their implementation, within the framework of ongoing national efforts to promote equality, social justice and empower women in various fields.
