On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Ajloun Women’s Charitable Association, in collaboration with the Intermediaries of Change Center for Sustainable Development, concluded an important awareness session titled “Gender-Based Violence: Deprivation from Education and Abuse.”

This initiative was part of the two organizations’ ongoing efforts to raise community awareness about urgent issues related to discrimination against women and girls

This event was part of a series of structured efforts to shed light on the root challenges facing women in Jordan and around the world—particularly those related to deprivation from education and abuse within institutional, familial, and social frameworks.

The session drew notable participation from social activists, researchers, and individuals passionate about human rights and gender issues, reflecting a growing community commitment to addressing these pressing concerns.

🟠 Deprivation from education as a tool of violence

During the rich discussions held in the session, it was emphasized that deprivation from education is not merely a neglect of a basic service, but rather one of the most severe forms of gender-based violence due to its direct negative impact on the lives of women and girls.

The contributions highlighted that girls who are denied education are often more vulnerable to early marriage, poverty, and economic and social dependency, which perpetuates cycles of injustice and unequal opportunities.

🟣 Insightful contributions and a spotlight on protection policies

The session featured contributions from participants of diverse backgrounds, focusing on strategies to address these issues through public policy reform, community-based intervention mechanisms, and the involvement of both formal and informal actors in a comprehensive protection system that upholds the principles of gender equality and justice.

Several diverse proposals were presented, including:

  • Developing support programs for girls’ education in marginalized areas.
  • Organizing awareness campaigns to reject all forms of abuse.
  • Activating the role of media and civil society in breaking the silence surrounding issues of violence against women.
  • Providing clear recommendations to policymakers for integrating gender issues into development plans.

🟢 A call for continuity and building community alliances

At the conclusion of the session, the Ajloun Women’s Association expressed its deep gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the event. The Association affirmed that this session is not an end, but rather a new starting point toward more in-depth and engaging future activities.

It also called for broadening the scope of dialogue and intensifying coordination among civil society organizations to ensure the sustained impact of such initiatives.

🧡 The event may have ended, but the messages it carried remain alive. Community commitment to the issues of women and girls is still in its early stages… The road ahead is long, but it is possible—through collaboration, knowledge, and sincere will.
